Welcome to the College of Education and the STE Secondary Program!

Welcome to the STE Secondary Education, Kahalewaiho‘ona‘auao Program at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Thank you for choosing both this profession and our program, which is deeply committed to creating an equitable and socially just society. Through a transformative learning experience, we aim to prepare you as educators who develop wisdom and skills needed for teaching, rooted in place and community, as the foundation for sparking students’ wonder and imagination about how to live in the world.

Kahalewaihoʻonaʻauao is a place of learning where pedagogy is developed and teaching practices are refined. We are a Native Hawaiian place of learning, and our program reflects the values of this land and its culture. Central to our program is the metaphor of wai—fresh water—symbolizing life, growth, and the flow of knowledge. We are also proud of the strong partnerships we have formed with local secondary schools, ensuring that you gain valuable experience grounded in community, culture, and real-world teaching.

Thank you for your commitment to this meaningful profession and for joining us on this journey. Together, we will work to ensure you are ready to make a lasting impact on your students and contribute to a more just and vibrant educational landscape.

Warm regards,

Dr. Stephanie Buelow
Program Director, STE Secondary Education, Kahalewaiho‘ona‘auao Program
