Introduction

Stating objectives enables you to translate your plan into action. Your objectives should state what you will accomplish by the end of the semester; and they should be clearly stated and measurable. Your learning plan will function as a tool, permitting you to focus on what you would like to accomplish and learn, to determine whether you have reached your objectives, and to assess your level of accomplishment. Consider your career goals, what an entry level professional in your field of interest is capable of, your own strengths, weaknesses, and skills. Ask yourself what new skills, capabilities, habits, etc. you wish to develop this semester.

In line with that, a resume is an important tool that allows you to market and communicate your strengths, skills and qualifications for jobs, internships and other opportunities. The UH Career Center has shared resources and presented to the class on writing effective resumes. Use those resources to get your resume ready to share with potential employers and supervisors!

Lesson

Thoroughly review the Required Resources BEFORE going through the Graded Activities. Please be aware of the due dates associated with this lesson.

In this lesson you will also have to share your learning goals with your field supervisor (reflection due in 2.3). In preparing for the conversation it will be important to be able to share a few things about yourself with your field supervisor. Be prepared to share who you are, why you are there, what you are hoping to learn, when you want to learn, and how your previous education and experience has prepared you to do so. This is part one of a 2 part information series on conversations with an evaluator of your performance (part 2 will be after their field experience is done to evaluate overall how they did).

Another important tool to share with your field supervisor is your resume! Your resume is an important tool that you will use now and in the future to support your career objectives!
