Welcome

Welcome to FSHN 492: Field Experience. In this writing intensive course, students will begin to integrate and apply the academic knowledge and critical skills they have gained through their undergraduate studies in a professional setting, field experience, to promote professional development. In this course students are required to obtain and complete a 100 hour field experience in a professional setting that is relevant to their future career goals. Students will go through a process of self-reflection and discussion with their field experience supervisor to develop specific learning objectives for the experience. The activities completed throughout the field experience will be designed to contribute to the achievement of those learning objectives. Course assignments and activities are broken down into five modules: cultivating (establish your presence, setting expectations, conflict resolution), planting (planning and mapping the learning plan and Gantt Chart), growing (developing the resume, personal statement/cover letter, interview preparation and reference selection), harvesting (preparing and completing the supervisor end of experience evaluation), and celebrating (sharing field experience through a professional portfolio, oral presentation and written report). Students will be expected to answer prompts in self-reflective journals in each module as well as build a professional portfolio to showcase their achievements.
